Cutting multiple colors at one time on your Silhouette machine

When you have an image that has more than one color to cut out, here is a great tip that will save you tons of time and paper. For example, I will show you how to cut out this darling butterfly in only one load of your mat.

Take a clean mat with its original cover paper left in place and turn upside down so you can see the lines.
Use a ruler and a sharpie marker and draw lines at 6” both horizontal and vertical.

Set aside and gather the colors you need to cut out your butterfly. Cut each 12" x 12" sheet in half and in half again so you end up with 4 6"x 6" sheets of each color.
Place 4 different colors on mat.

Note: If you have a 5th color, simply cut the 4th sheet in half and place them side by side.

Now you are ready to set up your file in Adobe Illustrator or your cutting program. Make sure to set your guides at 6” horizontal and 6” vertical.
You’re almost ready…now just drag your separate image pieces to the correct color square or section on the screen. Note: give plenty of room at the edges.

Load mat into cutter and select the correct cut settings for your paper. Then cut!
The butterfly cutting file will be available soon on ConfettiPapercrafts.com.

  1. Hey Lori! I love this idea. I have changing paper every time I want a new color. This is clever and I think that it will save me time. Thanks, good luck on your new blog!
